NYIGF 2011 Lights it Up For Fall!

Fabulous Pendants by Vintage Cake

Bohemian lovers, hold onto your seats – these gorgeous pendants from Vintage Cake are genius! I love the combination between the industrial bulb and the Victorian plates! I can see these in a number of style settings, warming kitchens or conversation areas.

But if you are jn love re-purposed and unexpected materials, Vintage Cake still has more to offer.

Excellent combos of vintage electrical insulators and salvaged door pendant create an industrial chic that is equally at home in converted warehouse setting, a prairie style home, or a town house sporting high ceilings.

Not up for Bohemian insutrial chic? There’s allot to talk about with architectural contemporary lighting as well.

This space age conversation piece functions with robotic envy, adjusting to any angle you could possibly require.

Every year the sheer volume of the show leaves me with leaden feet, no matter how good my footwear plan seems to be, and I never fail to lose one resource! It’s scarily predictable and really frustrating. This year’s nameless cool find is below – and i found the reference! It’s Nikku by Melissa Moore who I really enjoyed talking with. I can’t resist sharing her industrial vision for accent lighting:

Nikku Lighting

These pieces were instant conversation getters. Nikku Lighting designs are like crack to a glass junky!

I really loved UK’s Mathmos. Their funky cafeteria of boutique-esque lighting really embraces the imparative of personalizing a space for teen or kids. If you watched last week’s Design Star epic failure in embracing designing a kids room (and to be fair, their hands appeared to be tied in terms of design sources) you will really appreciate the fun and sophistication their lighting solutions manage to embrace in tandem…

like this cool projector that functions as well art – perfect for personalizing a dorm space, too, eliminating the need for tacks or tape that can result in costly charges for wall damage.

Their table top solutions are like the Willy Wonka of Lighting!

If you have persevered and kept and open mind through this post, acknowledging that while you have a well rounded apreciation you are still in the traditional comfort zone, you have not waited in vane!

Lazy Susan had some great options for traditional lamps that could go modern, Hollywood Glam, Art Deco flavor and more.

Lazy Susan Table lamp

This was one of the better pieces I encountered in terms of versatility. The elegance and graphic simplicity of this simple black and white stripe could be paired with the black and white modern honeycomb wallpaper I saw a few weeks ago on HGTV’s The Novagratz, or paired in a chic Hollywood Glam bedroom with a white flokati or hide area rug.

It is destined for the virtual shelves at www.myhomefacelift.com for fall for sure, as are several of the pieces above – stop by in late September!
