New York Gift – La Boheme
I interupted my posting on New York Gift last week and have missed posting for you, but had no alternative but to change my focus this past week. My daughter has been in the hospital this past week, and has emerged from two surgeries with flying colors, and everything will soon become colorful once again.
Occasionally a color palette comes along that just seems to resonate with what is happening in your life, and speaks volumes to the hopeful and light outlook to which people respond – the image above is just such an elegant soiree of up-lifting color that enjoys the delicate balance that exists between darkness, light, and the unexpected. And I am scarcely alone in my impression – this image comes via Lisa Hewitt’s boards on Pinterest, where last I looked it had been re-pinned 457 times from the Indecor blog.
I consider myself reasonably accomplished in color, lighting and art / painting techniques. My “claim to fame” if one is obligated to narrow the field to describe specialties is my ability to color match easily by eye. So I pulled out my Benjamin Moore fan deck and dedicated 5 minutes to approximating the colors in the indigo poppy centers, tulips with whispers of yellow, palest pink ceramics, tangy apple green, perwinkle-grey, assorted plaster whites and matte metallic gold. With this up-lifting color palette in mind, I thought we might go shopping for some inspiration for moving forward and getting back on track….
Bohemian cotton ticking looks superb and simple with burlap and tortoise buttons….
Neutrals in the French Bohemian style were turning heads and setting trends at The New York Gift Show! And why not? A neutral founation paves the way for the comfortable and casual introduction of color.
Like this lucky Bohemian style apple-green horse-shoe pillow! I would love to mix this up with this framed 1930’s Roccoco-esque framed wallpaper that I saw at the show – fabulous find!
…which would look grand with these up-cycled hooks from Vintage Cake – I want a feature wall in the entry of these re-purposed treasures!
La Boheme is a genre of style sonorous with playful and whimsical elements that lend an air of delightful disvoveries as you peruse the room – a display of pink DIY cardboard reindeer forms would not be out of character for this fun-loving trend for Fall 2012….
Magic happend when you add low profile pink votives to those amongst pink your reindeer when the lights are turned down – the play of light on the fireplace mantle through the cardboard armeture would look spectacular and fit any budget!
So much more to share…and so happy to be back to share all the trends for Fall with all of you – much more to come!
